Winter in Greenport is long and hard, the housing stock is old, and many garages are unheated and uninsulated. This is what we actually find here, and what we check on every visit.
On the coldest Greenport mornings, meltwater at the bottom seal freezes overnight and bonds the door to the floor. Running the opener against a frozen seal strains the motor and can tear the seal or bend the bottom panel, which is why a stuck door gets freed gently, never forced.
Spring steel loses flexibility in deep cold, and a Greenport spring near the end of its cycle life often chooses a freezing morning to snap - usually with a bang loud enough to hear inside the house. A door that suddenly feels impossibly heavy has lost a spring, not its opener.
Salt tracked in on tires all winter sits in the lower track and on cable strands across Greenport, and it corrodes exactly the parts that carry the door. Cables fray from the bottom up here, and hinges stiffen until the opener has to drag the door open.
Coastal storms drive rain and wet snow sideways at Greenport doors and test every track anchor and panel seam. After a big storm, a door that suddenly runs rough or leaks at the sides deserves a look before the next freeze locks the problem in.

The visit starts with the whole system checked — springs, cables, rollers, tracks and the opener — so the diagnosis is clear before any work begins, and the inspection is free.
The repair is done with the right parts on the truck, the door rebalanced and the opener set back to its proper force and travel — residential doors only, done the way we would want our own done.
You watch the door run a full cycle — up, down, safety reverse tested, the doorway completely clear — and any work was priced and agreed before it began. Estimates are always free.

Do not keep running the opener: a door bonded to the floor by ice can tear its bottom seal or strain the motor and top panel. Warm water along the seal frees most frozen doors in Greenport. If it still will not move, or it moved and now runs crooked, have it checked - ice in the track bends hardware.
Most often a broken spring: the opener can start the lift but cannot carry the full weight once the balance point passes. In a Greenport winter it can also be the door binding on ice in the track. Either way, stop cycling the opener and have it looked at before the motor pays for it.
Usually a slow bump from a car - easy on an icy driveway in Greenport - or a cable frayed through by road salt letting one side drop. Leave an off-track door exactly as it is, keep everyone clear, and call: the door is under spring tension and pushing it makes things worse.

No - residential only. We repair and install sectional doors on homes in Greenport, including springs, openers, cables, tracks and off-track doors. Commercial overhead and roll-up doors are not our work, and we would rather tell you that up front.
No — and be wary of anyone who does. Every garage door fails differently, so a phone price is a guess that changes at your door. Our estimates are free: a tech looks at the actual door, springs and opener, then gives you one clear price before any work starts.
