A garage door in Palo Alto rarely fights deep cold - it fights age, slope, salt or heat depending on the neighborhood, plus the occasional shake. This is what we actually find here, and what we check on every visit.
Even a modest quake in Palo Alto can shift a garage frame enough to bind a door, open a corner gap or pop rollers from a track. A door that suddenly runs differently after a shake deserves a full alignment and cable check before it is cycled hard again.
Many Palo Alto homes park on a slope, and sloped openings ask more of tracks, springs and opener force settings than flat ones. Doors on grades wear rollers unevenly and drift out of true sooner, which shows up as scraping, gaps and reversals.
California gives one state two enemies: salt air corroding springs and cables near the coast, and valley heat baking opener electronics and seals inland. Where your Palo Alto home sits decides which hardware check matters most, and the tech checks for both.
Planned shutoffs and storm outages in Santa Clara County leave doors dead where they sit. With sound springs the red cord lift is easy; with a failing spring the same door is dead weight - which is why spring condition is outage preparation here, not trivia.

The visit starts with the whole system checked — springs, cables, rollers, tracks and the opener — so the diagnosis is clear before any work begins, and the inspection is free.
The repair is done with the right parts on the truck, the door rebalanced and the opener set back to its proper force and travel — residential doors only, done the way we would want our own done.
You watch the door run a full cycle — up, down, safety reverse tested, the doorway completely clear — and any work was priced and agreed before it began. Estimates are always free.

Cycle it gently once and watch: binding, scraping or a new corner gap means the frame or tracks shifted. In Palo Alto we check alignment, anchors, cables and rollers after a shake before a door goes back to daily use, because a racked door wears fast and can leave the track under load.
Red release cord, door closed, lift steadily - with sound springs it rises and holds. If it feels like dead weight, a spring has failed: stop and call. In Santa Clara County, battery-backup openers are a plain conversation worth having, especially where shutoffs are planned events.
Yes - same day in most cases, every day from 8 AM to 8 PM, with free estimates before any work starts. We are licensed and insured, with 10+ years of experience and 100+ 5-star reviews. A trapped car or a door open to the street goes to the front of the list.
Start with the sensors: dust, a bumped bracket or bright sun in a sensor eye can break the beam on Palo Alto doors. If the eyes are clean and aligned, the door may be binding or the opener force settings may no longer suit a heavier, older door. Either way it is a diagnosis, not a guess.
Usually, yes. Sound panels and tracks can be kept while springs, cables and rollers are renewed and modern safety sensors are fitted and tested. In California homes we would rather rebuild honest hardware than sell around it - you hear plainly if a door truly is at the end.
No — and be wary of anyone who does. Every garage door fails differently, so a phone price is a guess that changes at your door. Our estimates are free: a tech looks at the actual door, springs and opener, then gives you one clear price before any work starts.
